ADOT MVD helps “Let Life Sing” for National Donate Life Month in April

In April of each year, the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division and Donate Life Arizona celebrate National Donate Life Month to help raise awareness of organ donation, encourage registration and honor donors and their families.

This year, the theme for National Donate Life Month is to “Let Life Sing,” with birds representing both new beginnings and visits from loved ones who have died, according to Donate Life America.

In 2024, a record-breaking number of Arizonans received life-saving transplants from the highest number of donors in a single year. Each person who elects to become an organ, eye and tissue donor could possibly save eight lives and help 75 more.

If you have an Arizona driver license or ID card, you may recall seeing a box you could check to register as an organ donor. More than 95% of Arizonans who sign up as organ and tissue donors do so through the MVD.

For two decades, ADOT’s MVD and Donate Life Arizona have partnered to educate people about organ, eye and tissue donation and make it easier to register. More than 210,000 people registered as donors in Arizona for the first time in 2024, for a total of 4.8 million registered donors in the state. 

Previously, registration could only be done when getting or updating a driver license or ID card. But now, MVD customers can also register as donors when they renew their vehicle registration online at AZMVDNow.com, the most common method of renewal.

By choosing to be a donor, you can make a difference in the life of someone you may never meet, and many donor families feel it gives their loved one an opportunity to live on and continue helping others.
