All signs point to new I-40 interchange opening soon in Kingman

All the signs are in place that a new interchange is about to open along Interstate 40 in east Kingman.

The new roadway is there. So are the entrance and exit ramps. And then there are the actual physical signs that recently went up along I-40 for the new Flying Fortress Parkway at Exit 56.

Just a few weeks of construction remain to complete the interchange, with an opening set for Monday, Oct. 5.

On that day, the city of Kingman will hold a celebration to open the Flying Fortress Parkway interchange. The event includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a flyover by a World War II-era Flying Fortress aircraft. Kingman has more information in a news release that notes the city will announce details of the event’s precise time and location at a later date.

The $44 million interchange will serve the rapidly growing area of east Kingman while relieving congestion at what is now the easternmost I-40 interchange in Kingman at Andy Devine Avenue.

Flying Fortress Parkway will feature two travel lanes in each direction, bicycle lanes and sidewalks.

The project began in December 2024. Since that time, the city roadway’s name has changed from Rancho Santa Fe Parkway to Flying Fortress Parkway. For more information, please visit azdot.gov/I-40RanchoSantaFePkwayTI.
