From any perspective, I-10 widening projects are about safety

When you look from high above the future lanes of Interstate 10 between Eloy and Picacho Peak, the progress seems remarkable for a project that began just eight short months ago.

Progress has been even faster in Casa Grande, where work on a second project to make a stretch of I-10 six-lane freeway began in March.

In the video above, we used a drone to show the tremendous scope of these two projects, which will improve 8 miles of I-10 by next fall. They're on schedule for completion in the next 15 months.

Both projects include adding travel lanes so traffic will flow more smoothly. A new interchange at State Route 87 will better serve people traveling through central Pinal County. We’re also creating an innovative dust detection zone that will help us identify dust storms in an area where they have historically been a challenge for drivers.

But there’s much more to these improvements than simply helping you complete your travels with fewer delays. In a word, it's safety.

Adding travel lanes on I-10 means less potential for congestion. The new SR 87 interchange will make for an easier transition. And the new dust detection project will give you the information you need to make safe decisions when the dust blows in a 10-mile stretch between Eloy and Picacho Peak.

The work we’re doing in Pinal County will have a lot of benefits for people driving through central Arizona, but none is more important than helping you get from here to there safely.
