Fireworks, hot dogs, apple pie and baseball are on the top of everyone’s mind as we get closer to celebrating the Fourth of July.

Many people will travel for this holiday to see a small town parade, big city fireworks or other American traditions. Now that the enforcement for a REAL ID is here, you need a federally compliant credential like the Arizona Travel ID to get past TSA checkpoints at airports for domestic flights.

The Arizona Travel ID and other forms of federally compliant identification such as a valid U.S. passport, make it easier to fly to your favorite American locations like the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, Coney Island New York for the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest or Jackson Hole, Wyoming for a wild west celebration that includes a rodeo and fireworks.

You can walk into an MVD office for this service, but we suggest scheduling an appointment at azmvdnow.gov at least two weeks before your travel dates. You will need to show proof of identity, provide your Social Security number and proof of Arizona residency. For a full list of credentials and documents that meet these requirements, please visit azdot.gov/TravelID

The cost is $25, and the credential is valid for eight years, per federal law. You will be issued a new ID that will arrive in the mail in less than 14 days.

With the new Arizona Travel ID, you can more easily visit locations such as Mount Rushmore, South Dakota or the oldest Fourth of July Celebration, which began in 1785 in Bristol, Rhode Island.
