A commitment to safety and to mentorship helped earn ADOT Enforcement and Compliance Division (ECD) Officer Matt Drury recognition as the Arizona Trucking Association’s 2025 ADOT ECD Officer of the Year.

Officer Drury, shown in the photo above holding a plaque, is stationed at the Kingman Port of Entry and has been with ECD for a year as a certified Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance inspector and instructor. He is joined in the photo by, from right to left, ECD Director Daniel Lugo, Capt. Jon Olney and Lt. Brian Farrington.

Officer Drury and others at ADOT commercial ports of entry help safely connect people and empower the economy by monitoring all commercial traffic entering Arizona. They check for registration, taxes, size and weight restrictions, commercial driver license requirements, insurance requirements, and equipment safety requirements. They also issue permits as required.

Officer Drury has conducted more than 325 commercial motor vehicle inspections and discovered more than 1,400 violations over the past year, but that is only part of his story.

Because promoting safe commercial travel is about more than enforcement, the Arizona Trucking Association noted Officer Drury’s commitment to professional development and to sharing his knowledge with others. This includes traveling to Missouri during the past year to attend the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance instructor in-service training. He has also taught Class A inspector courses in Phoenix and Kingman.

Always looking for ways to provide mentorship, Officer Drury developed a study guide for Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance classes that is now used throughout the state.

ECD leadership selected Officer Drury to participate in the Governor’s Regulatory Review Council meetings involving motor carrier, commercial driver license, and hazardous materials endorsement rules.

We couldn’t be prouder to have Officer Drury on the ADOT team, and we congratulate him on this prestigious honor.
