Recently, we were asked on social media about merging into a center left-turn lane on a surface street:
The Arizona Driver License Manual has the answer on page 37.
A center left-turn lane is in the middle of a two-way street and marked on both sides by two yellow lines- the inner line is broken and the outer line is solid.
The lane is used for vehicles only for turning into either direction and is NOT a traffic lane or passing lane.
Drivers should also follow these rules:
- Signal before entering the lane
- Move completely into the lane
- Be alert for others using the lane
- Drivers should not accelerate in order to merge thru traffic
