If you’re looking for an illustration of how ADOT safely connects people and supports the state’s economy, it’s hard to do better than our team members who work with companies hauling oversize loads.

It’s no small task helping firms move massive bridge girders, pipes, transformers, windmill blades and more with minimal disruption to traffic while safeguarding Arizona’s investment in its highways. That’s why we’re so pleased that one such customer, Fort Wayne, Indiana-based Buchanan Hauling and Rigging, dropped by to honor permit technicians Christina Pippin (at right in the photo above) and Cassandra Miller (at left).

Owner Geary Buchanan (shown above with Pippin and Miller) presented certificates of appreciation citing the pair’s “invaluable services and contributions,” including prompt responses to calls, emails and text messages. Examples of the company’s coordination with ADOT include moving materials for projects building new I-10 bridges at the Gila River and widening the Loop 101 Pima Freeway in north Scottsdale.

“I wish we could duplicate you in about 49 other states,” Buchanan said.

“That’s our No 1 thing here, customer service,” Pippin told Buchanan.

Brad Burgess, Deputy State Engineer overseeing the Transportation Technology Group, called the recognition a great way to showcase ADOT’s permit team.

“The work that Chris and Cassandra do is not only high-risk and high-responsibility in terms of ensuring oversized loads travel safely across Arizona, but it's also important in terms of supporting the economy and providing critical logistics support,” he said.

To learn more about what Christina Pippin and Cassandra Miller do, you can listen to this recent episode of our podcast, On the Road With ADOT featuring them as guests.
