Thanksgiving can be a difficult time for seniors in affordable housing facilities, so the MVD Community Connections engagement team decided to share some holiday spirit. Employees at several MVD offices gathered Thanksgiving food and supplies for residents at two elder care facilities in Tucson.

Employees from Casa Grande, Douglas, Sierra Vista, Tucson East, Tucson Regional and Tucson North MVD offices have contributed to this food drive that benefited the Barrio Viejo Elder Care Facility and Casitas on Broadway.

“The Community Connections program is designed to increase MVD's involvement in our communities that we all live and work in,” said MVD Customer Service Manager Christy Sanchez. “This donation effort will help low income seniors within our communities with food and supplies in the spirit of giving during the holiday season.”

In addition to the Thanksgiving meal ingredients, over 200 pantry food items were donated to the facility's food pantries including baking mixes, cereal, pasta sauce, crackers, cookies, and canned food.

Food pantries at the facilities were created by and supported by staff to help provide residents with food during difficult times.

The MVD team is also determined to provide a Christmas dinner and gifts to the residents in December.
