College football season is almost over as we're deep into bowl-game season. With bowl games come events that showcase people and organizations that positively impact the local community.

This month, MVD teamed up with Donor Network of Arizona and marched in the 51st Vrbo Fiesta Bowl Parade presented by Lerner and Rowe to remind everyone that registering as an organ and tissue donor is always in season and a great play for the community.

This year’s parade featured two Arizona athletes as parade grand marshals: Arizona State University football standout and NFL quarterback Jake Plummer, along with University of Arizona basketball standout and NBA player Richard Jefferson. It also featured Reggie the Donor Cactus floating down the parade route with MVD employees, donor families and transplant recipients being honored this year.

“One person in particular, Julia Young with the Donor Network of Arizona, stands out in the effort to inspire registrations,” said Patricia Zamora Medina, MVD Management Analyst and MVD Community Connections volunteer. “Her support and warm welcoming spirit truly helps keep MVD and DNA connected in this important community effort.”

ADOT MVD and Donor Network of Arizona have partnered to educate people about organ, eye and tissue donation and make it easy to register. Today, more than 4 million Arizonans are registered donors.
