Arizona is home to 22 federally recognized Native American tribes, while eight tribes beyond our state have ancestral ties to here. Native nations comprise roughly a quarter of Arizona's land, and state highways are key corridors for them.

That's why our State Engineer's Office has a Native Nations Ambassador for Infrastructure Development. Dezbah Hatathli visits On the Road With ADOT this week to explain her team's role in working with tribes across Arizona on projects and more.

A member of the Navajo Nation, Dezbah explains not just how ADOT coordinates with native nations but things drivers can keep in mind when using state highways on tribal land.
