Being the parent of a young driver whose age begins with a 1 is a special mix of pride and primal terror. And not just when I'm riding shotgun with Junior.

That's why I'm making my 18-year-old listen to this week's episode of On the Road With ADOT marking National Teen Driver Safety Week

Kelsey Mo, our safety communications lead, has important tips for young drivers and their parents, including always using a seat belt, avoiding distractions, limiting passengers and never driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In addition, Bill Lamoreaux, our communications guru on Motor Vehicle Division matters, explains the graduated driver license carried by new drivers.

This is important stuff for all drivers. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, traffic crashes are a leading cause of death for those ages 15 to 18. In 2022 alone, 811 teen drivers died in crashes across the U.S., and a total of 2,514 teen drivers were involved in crashes in which someone died.
