As today, Feb. 1, 2026, the TSA advises that air travelers lacking required identification will be subject to a $45 fee to use the ConfirmID verification system. ADOT has no direct role in that, but our Motor Vehicle Division does offer a way for your state ID to meet federal REAL ID requirements: the Arizona Travel ID.
Bill Lamoreaux, our lead communicator on all things MVD, joins On the Road With ADOT this week to discuss the Arizona Travel ID. He has the details you need on how to join millions of Arizonans who are able to use their driver licenses and state ID cards for air travel and for other uses that have REAL ID requirements.
Getting one requires visiting an MVD office, and it's always best to make an appointment through AZMVDNow.gov. The process is easy and quick if you review the documentation needed.
Spend a few minutes with Bill and host Doug Nintzel, and you can be ready to fly without paying the new TSA fee.
