Summer road trips mean traveling up north, and roadwork up north

For many Arizonans, summer temperatures make this the perfect time for a road trip to northern Arizona.

For ADOT, summer temperatures also make this the perfect time for pavement improvement projects in northern Arizona.

With so many motorists heading up north this time of year, ADOT is reminding drivers of the summer roadwork season as well as how to stay informed of those summertime work zones.

We recently outlined our biggest northern Arizona projects in this news release, including work on busy highways such as I-40 near Flagstaff, plus I-40 and US 93 near Kingman. Check out the link to see some of the more significant projects ADOT has in store for this summer.

For motorists, the work will often mean delays of up to 15 minutes. In return for a bit of inconvenience, drivers will benefit when the worn asphalt is replaced with new, smooth pavement.

While summer might seem like an inconvenient time for roadwork when so many motorists are traveling up north, highways at higher elevations can only be paved during warmer months.

ADOT does work to minimize the impact of construction, including by not scheduling work on weekends and holidays.

To make sure you stay informed of summer roadwork, check out information on ADOT projects at azdot.gov/projects, where you can peruse highways by region and subscribe for construction updates. Motorists can also stay informed via the Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, AZ511 app (download for Apple or Android devices) or by calling 511.
