When faced with freeway closures, it may be tempting to seek out the quickest shortcut via side streets, but taking Arizona Department of Transportation's designated detour routes isn't just a suggestion,it's a crucial step for ensuring safety, reducing congestion and maintaining the smooth flow of traffic for everyone.

The Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project is scheduled to be completed in early 2025, but until then, the traveling public should still plan on freeway restrictions and closures throughout the project area.

Following designated detours will save the traveling public an average of three to five minutes, according to data gathered by the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Oftentimes, when we set up designated detours, signal timing changes are also implemented to improve progression. This enables smoother traffic flow allowing the traveling public to move around our closures and restrictions more efficiently.

Now through fall, travelers should expect weekend freeway closures in the project area. ADOT encourages motorists to plan travel routes ahead of time and allow extra time to get where they are going. To receive information on upcoming freeway closures, visit the project website at i10braodwaycurve.com or download the free project mobile app called The Curve. Both the project website and app are updated frequently.

By committing to the designated detour routes during freeway closures, you contribute to a safer and more effective driving experience for all. Let’s work together to keep our roads safe and traffic flowing smoothly by using designated detour routes during freeway closures.

Thank you for your patience as we work on improving your future commute.

Please note:  The Arizona Department of The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to use designated detours when there are closures on state highways. Schedules can quickly change because of weather and other unforeseen situations. For the most up-to-date information, we encourage you to download the Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project’s free mobile app, TheCurve or visit the Alerts section of the project website before you travel.
