Northbound SR 51 closed between Glendale Avenue and Shea Boulevard this weekend (May 1-4)
Nightly southbound SR 51 lane restrictions scheduled May 5-8; northbound SR 51 scheduled to be closed from Northern Avenue to Cactus Road May 8-11

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises Phoenix area drivers to plan for the following closure and nightly lane restrictions:

  • Northbound SR 51 will be CLOSED between Glendale Avenue and Shea Boulevard from 9 p.m. Friday, May 1, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 4. The following ramps also will be closed:
    • The northbound SR 51 on-ramps at Indian School Road, Colter Street/18th Street (north of Camelback Road) and Bethany Home Road

DETOUR: Drivers exiting at Glendale Avenue may consider traveling west to northbound Seventh Street, northbound Cave Creek Road and eastbound Cactus Road to access SR 51 north of the closure. Expect heavy traffic and delays. Consider using northbound Interstate 17 as an alternate freeway route.

OVERNIGHT LANE RESTRICTIONS

  • REMINDER: Southbound SR 51 will continue to be narrowed to one or two lanes between Northern Avenue and Bethany Home Road nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., until Friday morning, May 1.
  • NEW: Southbound SR 51 will be narrowed to one lane between Glendale Avenue and Indian School Road nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting Tuesday, May 5, and ending Friday morning, May 8.

UPCOMING CLOSURE

  • Northbound SR 51 is scheduled to be CLOSED between Northern Avenue and Cactus Road from 9 p.m. Friday, May 8, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 11. 

ADOT advises drivers to use caution and be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching and traveling through all work zones.
