Don't miss a special Arizona Highways podcast series on the North Rim

For more than 100 years, Arizona Highways magazine has been showing through photos and words places that make our state so special. That connection makes the recent devastation at the Grand Canyon's North Rim especially difficult for those who work at Arizona Highways.

Near the South Rim as the crow flies but a world apart in terms of access, Grand Canyon Lodge and the surrounding forest are treasures to people lucky enough to have lived and worked there, not to mention those who have visited through the decades. That's why the Arizona Highways podcast has produced a three-part series framing this loss through individuals with longtime ties to the area. Editor Robert Stieve and host Steve Goldstein talk with:

• Bruce Aiken, an artist who lived at Roaring Springs in the Grand Canyon for more than 30 years and has lived in the North Rim community longer than anyone

• Dr. Tom Myers, who honeymooned at the North Rim, has worked at medical clinics on both rims and is among those who have hiked the Grand Canyon’s entire 270 miles

• Amy S. Martin, an Arizona Highways contributor who has worked for many years as a Grand Canyon National Park backcountry ranger and has lived and worked on the North Rim
