The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is set to begin construction of  the Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway), 75th Avenue to I-17 widening project on Sept. 27. The project will add a new lane in each direction along Loop 101 west of I-17, and will take approximately two-and-a-half years to complete. Other project elements include widening bridges, modifying interchange ramps and frontage roads in some locations, adding a third southbound left turn lane onto Loop 101 at 75th Avenue, improving the system interchange ramp between westbound Loop 101 and northbound I-17 and resurfacing the roadway.

The work will require weekend and overnight closures of Loop 101 and the cross-streets, as well as 60-day closures of interchange ramps.

The following closures and restrictions are planned:

WEEKEND OF SEPT. 27-30

  • Eastbound Loop 101 will be closed between 75th and 51st avenues from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, until 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30
  • The following ramps also will be closed:
    • Eastbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Bell Road and Union Hills Drive
  • Detour:  Drivers can use the eastbound frontage road (Beardsley Road) or eastbound Union Hills Drive to 51st Avenue tore-enter the freeway.. 
    • Note: Side streets will be open to local traffic only. Detouring traffic should not travel into neighborhoods. 

FUTURE PLANNED RESTRICTIONS AND CLOSURES

  • Westbound Loop 101 will be closed between 51st and 75th avenues starting 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, and ending 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7.
  • Eastbound Loop 101 will be closed between 51st and 19th avenues starting 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, and ending 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21. 
  • Westbound Loop 101 will be closed between 19th and 51st avenues starting 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, and ending 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28. 
  • Northbound I-17 will be closed between Deer Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads starting 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, and ending 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4.
     

ADOT advises drivers to plan ahead, allow extra time and use the designated detour route while closures are in place.

Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors.
