31st Avenue at Loop 101 and I-17 ramps to westbound Loop 101 to be closed this weekend, June 6-9
New dates also set for lane restrictions on westbound Loop 101 that were unable to occur due to weather. 

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following closures and restrictions, as part of the Loop 101 widening project between 75th Avenue and I-17.

  • 31st Avenue will be closed in both directions at the Loop 101 interchange from 10 p.m. Friday, June 6, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 9, for bridge removal work. 
    • The right lane also will be closed on westbound Loop 101 at the 31st Avenue bridge during this time.
    • DETOUR: Drivers may use 27th or 35th avenues as alternate routes.
  • The north- and southbound I-17 ramps to westbound Loop 101 also will be closed.
    • DETOUR: Northbound I-17 drivers may use the Rose Garden Lane exit to 27th Avenue to access westbound Loop 101.
    • DETOUR: Southbound I-17 drivers may use the Deer Valley Road exit to 27th Avenue to access westbound Loop 101
    • NOTE: The westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 35th Avenue is closed for reconstruction.
  • UPDATED: Westbound Loop 101 will be narrowed to two lanes in the area of the 51st Avenue interchange nightly from 10 p.m. Sunday, June 8, to 5 a.m. Friday, June 13, for paving work.

LONG-TERM RAMP CLOSURES

Westbound Loop 101 off-ramp at 51st Avenue closed for approximately 60 days beginning 11:30 p.m., Monday, May 19.

  • DETOUR: Drivers may consider using the westbound Loop 101 off-ramp at 59th Avenue, then travel south to eastbound Union Hills Drive to reach 51st Avenue.

Eastbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 59th Avenue will be closed for approximately 60 days beginning 11:30 p.m., Monday, May 19.

  • DETOUR: Drivers may consider using eastbound Union Hills Drive to 51st Avenue to access eastbound Loop 101
     

ONGOING RESTRICTIONS

Lane restrictions are ongoing at the following locations for bridge work and frontage road improvements.

At the 51st and 35th avenue interchanges:

  • All on- and off-ramps will be narrowed to one lane
  • The left-turn lane for both east- and westbound on-ramps will be narrowed to one lane
  • 51st and 35th avenues will be narrowed to one lane under Loop 101 

At the 31st Avenue interchange:

  • The 31st Avenue shoulders will be closed under Loop 101. Pedestrian access is still available. 

Frontage roads:

Much of the work on the frontage roads was completed in March 2025. Short-term periodic restrictions on the frontage roads may be needed in the future.
