Order Your Plates

Personalized & Specialty Plates

Make your vehicle uniquely yours with personalized letters and numbers on your license plate. You can also choose from over 100 specialty plate designs that support Arizona charities.

Cost

  • Standard plates: No additional cost.
  • Specialty plates: Add $25.00 initial and annual fee. Add $25.00 more if personalized.
    • Charity support: $17.00 from each specialty plate purchase and renewal goes directly to the sponsoring organization.
  • Personalized plates: Add $25.00 annually for custom letters and numbers.
  • Processing time: Up to 4 weeks

Keep your current plate until your new plate arrives. No refunds or changes are allowed. All personalized plates are subject to review. 

Most specialty plates can include a disability symbol, if needed, at no extra charge.

Plate Replacement

Damaged or lost your plate? We can help you get a replacement.

  • Cost: $5.00.
  • Damaged plate: You'll receive a plate with the same numbers and letters.
  • Lost or stolen plate: You'll receive a plate with new numbers and letters for your security. There is no option for the same plate.
  • Registration and tab: Your new plate will be sent with an updated registration and tab.

How to replace:

Disability Parking & Deaf/Hard of Hearing Alert Plates/Placards

Disability Parking Plates & Placards

These allow parking in specially marked disability spaces when the disabled person is the driver or passenger. Apply for a plate or placard.

Disability plates
  • Cost: Standard plates are issued at no cost. Specialty plates require a $25 initial and annual fee as well as a $25 personalization fee, if applicable.
  • Requirement: The vehicle must be registered or leased by the disabled person or guardian of a minor child.
  • Application: Complete the disability application with medical certification.
Disability placards
  • Permanent placards: No cost and never expire
  • Temporary placards: No cost, valid for six months; must be recertified
Placard options
  • Portable: May be moved between vehicles if the disabled person is present
  • Multiple: Up to three placards may be issued with MVD approval.
Medical certification is required from one of the following:
  • Licensed physician
  • Physician assistant
  • Nurse practitioner
  • Hospital administrator
  • Physical therapist
Deaf/Hard of Hearing Alert Plates:

These plates alert law enforcement and emergency responders that the driver may be deaf or hard of hearing.
Important: These plates do NOT provide special parking privileges.

Digital License Plates

Arizona offers digital license plates. These electronic displays show your assigned plate number and can display authorized messages.

What you need to know
  • Your plate number displays constantly on the device.
  • You can order a personalized and/or specialty plate for digital display.
  • Plates show "invalid" when your registration expires instead of showing expiration dates.
  • If the plate is removed from your vehicle, it displays messages like "stolen" or "plate detached."
How to get digital plates
  1. Purchase an approved display device through the provider.
  2. Order your plate design through AZ MVD Now.
  3. Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.

The manufacturer determines the plate’s cost, and MVD does not receive any proceeds from sales.

Plate Display Requirements

Keep your plates legal

  • Ensure the state name, "Arizona," remains visible and unobscured
  • Display your plate on the rear of the vehicle.
  • Mount the plate securely to your vehicle.
  • Keep the plate at least 12 inches from the ground.
  • Keep the plate clean and clearly readable.

All plates, tabs, and documents are mailed to your address in a plain envelope—no office pickup required.
