ADOT announces finalists in Safety Message Contest
Public can vote on traffic safety messages through Aug. 27
PHOENIX – Arizonans submitted over 1,700 traffic safety message ideas in ADOT’s Safety Message Contest and now it’s up to the public to vote for the favorite out of 10 finalists.
Through Thursday, Aug. 27, Arizonans can view the finalists and vote on their favorite traffic safety message at azdot.gov/signcontest. The two messages that receive the most votes will be the winners and displayed on highway overhead message boards as part of an ongoing safety campaign to influence driver behavior.
The finalists are:
- DON’T BE A STATISTIC, DON’T DRIVE BALLISTIC
- THAT PHONE? DROP IT LIKE IT’S HOT
- THERE IS NO SEASON TO BE A SPEED DEMON
- KEEP YOUR COOL, EASE OFF THE FUEL
- I’M IN MY DESIGNATED DRIVER ERA
- AVOID THE WRECKS BY AVOIDING THE TEXTS
- LIFE HAS NO REPLAY, DRIVE THE RIGHT WAY
- WATCH THE ROAD, NOT THE SCREEN
- DON’T LET THAT TEXT MAKE YOU CRASH OUT
- MAIN CHARACTERS ALWAYS WEAR SEATBELTS
ADOT displays these traffic safety messages as part of an ongoing effort to engage Arizonans about making safer decisions behind the wheel. Crashes don’t just happen. They’re the result of choices. According to national crash data, about 90% of vehicle crashes are caused by driver decisions — meaning drivers choosing to speed, drive distracted or impaired.
When drivers make the decision to obey the speed limit, put down the phone and drive alert, and designate a driver, it makes traveling on the roads safer for everyone.
