ADOT to improve Duval Mine Road driving surface at I-19

November 2, 2026

Project in Sahuarita begins Nov. 8 to repair sunken roadway sections, sidewalks

TUCSON – The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin a project in early November to create a smoother driving surface on Duval Mine Road at the Interstate 19 interchange in Sahuarita.

The $850,000 project will repair dips in the roadway on either side of I-19 by injecting a polyurethane foam under the pavement to raise the uneven road surface and stabilize soil under the roadway that has settled over time.

Along the same section of Duval Mine Road, ADOT will replace more than 1,000 square feet of uneven sidewalks and sidewalk ramps for a smoother surface. Additional work includes replacing damaged drainage features, curbing and adjusting uneven walkway pavers.

ADOT will perform most of the construction in the evenings to minimize traffic impacts.

The first work is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, through Friday, Nov. 13. During those times, eastbound Duval Mine Road will be closed from the frontage road west of I-19 to east of I-19 at Abrego Drive. During the closure, motorists can use Esperanza Boulevard at Exit 65, which is the exit south of Duval Mine Road.

Additional restrictions and closures will be scheduled as the project continues.

The project is expected to last through December.
