Crews lay new asphalt as widening project moves forward

PHOENIX — Crews have begun laying pavement for the third travel lane being added in both directions along 26 miles of Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Casa Grande.

The I-10 Wild Horse Pass Project construction crews are currently paving 10 miles of new asphalt in the median on eastbound I-10 near State Route 387. This work is taking place in one of four project segments on I-10 that began active construction in January, known as the I-10 Gas Line Road to south of SR 387 Project.

Not only are crews adding a third general purpose lane in both directions between Gas Line Road to just south of SR 387, but they are also working on other major project components in this segment including:

  • Reconstructing the I-10 SR 387/Pinal Avenue interchange
  • Construction of a new interchange at Seed Farm Road
  • Widening the Gas Line Road bridge over I-10
  • Removal of Dirk Lay Road bridge over I-10
  • Installing freeway cameras and digital overhead messaging boards
  • Adding wrong-way detection systems

Once completed, the I-10 Wild Horse Pass Corridor Project will help reduce traffic congestion and travel times for motorists commuting between the Phoenix and Casa Grande areas. All four segments of the 26-mile I-10 project are expected to be completed by late 2029.
