Drivers should always focus on safety, stay alert in existing work zones
PHOENIX – No mainline freeway closures are scheduled for improvement projects in the Phoenix area this weekend, April 3-6, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Drivers should focus on safety when behind the wheel. Please commit to always being a safe driver, including in all work zones. April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Stay alert, obey reduced speed limits in work zones, avoid distractions and never drive while impaired.
ADOT plans and constructs new freeways, additional lanes and other improvements in the Phoenix area as part of the Maricopa Association of Governments’ Regional Transportation Plan for the Greater Phoenix region. Many improvement projects are currently funded via Proposition 400, including a dedicated sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004.
ADOT also has started construction on the Loop 303 Improvement Project between Interstate 17 and 51st Avenue, the first project funded under the region’s Proposition 479 plan. Voters approved Proposition 479 in November 2024, extending the existing half-cent tax for transportation improvements.
Reminder: Real-time highway conditions are available on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at AZ511.gov, the az511 app (download for Apple or Android devices) or by calling 511.
