It may not be a dazzling Fourth of July fireworks show, but controlled rock blasting for the I-17 Improvement Project is a pretty spectacular sight in our eyes. And it’s a necessary operation to make way for the additional lanes between Anthem Way and Sunset Point.

The first flex lanes on Arizona’s highway system are coming to Interstate 17 in 2025 as part of the I-17 Improvement Project from Anthem Way to Sunset Point. During the last year, crews have been busy blasting rock and moving earth in preparation for the construction of the new system.

The nation's birthday is a great time to reflect on Arizonans serving the community. Last year, more than 5,900 volunteers assembled to bag litter along adopted miles of state highways.
