I-10 Pavement Improvement Project: Riggs Road to the Gila River Bridges
Overview
The Arizona Department of Transportation is improving six miles of east- and westbound Interstate 10 between Riggs Road and the Gila River bridges in Maricopa and Pinal counties. The purpose of the project is to improve safety and driving conditions on the existing roadway and extend the life of the pavement.
Project Elements
- Pavement rehabilitation work along I-10 in Maricopa and Pinal counties and within the Gila River Indian Community.
- Work is occurring in both directions of I-10.
- The work includes milling out the existing top layer of pavement (approximately 2-1/2 inches) and replacing it with a new layer of asphalt pavement.
- Crews will also replace guardrail and pavement markings and complete other related work.
Project Schedule
Construction is scheduled to last about six months, from March to July 2023. Schedules are subject to change because of weather and other unforeseen situations.
What to Expect
Work will occur overnight, Sundays through Thursdays, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. I-10 will be reduced to a single lane at night while work is underway. Motorists should anticipate restrictions and allow extra travel time, as delays are possible.
