  • Eastbound I-10 will be CLOSED between Verrado Way and Citrus Road from 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9. The following ramps also will be closed:

    • The eastbound I-10 on-ramps at Verrado Way, Jackrabbit Trail and Miller, Watson and Perryville roads.

    • DETOUR: Drivers may consider using eastbound Yuma or McDowell roads to access eastbound I-10 at Citrus Road.

UPCOMING CLOSURES/RESTRICTIONS:

  • Westbound I-10 will be CLOSED between Loop 303 and Verrado Way from 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16. The following ramps also will be closed:

    • The north- and southbound Loop 303 ramps to westbound I-10 westbound

    • The westbound I-10 on-ramps at Bullard Avenue, Estrella Parkway, Jackrabbit Trail and Citrus and Perryville roads

    • DETOUR: Drivers may consider using westbound Van Buren Street, Yuma or McDowell roads to access westbound I-10 at Verrado Way.

  • Weekend and weeknight overnight lane restrictions are planned beginning in mid-November to set barriers for the work zone.

  • Weekend closures of Citrus Road are planned in early 2027 to remove the outer portion of the bridge.

  • Most of the I-10 widening will be constructed behind the construction barrier, however some weekend and overnight closures of I-10 will be needed.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation, in coordination with the Maricopa Association of Governments and the cities of Goodyear and Buckeye, will be improving Interstate 10 from SR 85 to Citrus Road. The improvements will increase capacity by adding a High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) travel lane and improve safety by adding a concrete median barrier and median lighting in some locations.

Improvements will be constructed in two phases based on available funding. Construction of the Phase I project from Interstate 10 from Verrado Way to Citrus Road will begin in November 2026. A future project to add an HOV lane in each direction along I-10 between State Route 85 and Verrado Way is also planned, pending available state legislative funding.

Project Elements

  • Widen I-10 to the outside to add an HOV lane in each direction.
  • Widen the I-10 bridges where needed to accommodate the new lanes.
  • Resurface I-10 with a diamond grinding treatment and stripe the new lanes.
  • Noise abatement where warranted.

I-10, Verrado Way to Citrus Road Project Phasing

Construction is scheduled to begin in November. Initial work to establish the work zone and prepare for the widening will include:

  • Removing the existing top layer of worn asphalt pavement on I-10 between Verrado Way and Citrus Road.
  • Shifting traffic on I-10 to the median and striping lanes in a temporary configuration.
  • Installing barriers along the outside of I-10 to establish the work zone.

Beginning in early 2027, work to remove the outside portion of the I-10 bridge at Citrus Road will begin. Paving the new outside lanes is expected to begin in Spring 2027.

What to Expect

  • Full weekend closures of I-10 from Verrado Way to Citrus Road are scheduled Nov. 6-9 and Nov. 13-16 from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday to remove the existing pavement and temporarily stripe lanes.
  • Weekend and weeknight overnight lane restrictions are planned beginning in mid-November to set barriers for the work zone.
  • Weekend closures of Citrus Road in early 2027 to remove the outer portion of the bridge.
  • Most of the I-10 widening will be constructed behind the barrier, however some weekend and overnight closures of I-10 will be needed for this work.
  • The existing number of travel lanes on I-10 will be maintained throughout construction.

Schedules are subject to change based on weather or other unforeseen factors. ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers and on the project web page.
