I-17 lane restrictions, ramp closures at SR 74, Daisy Mountain Drive and Pioneer Road scheduled Nov. 21-26

This alert includes new dates for ramp closures delayed due to weather; no closures or lane restrictions scheduled over Thanksgiving weekend

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following overnight closures and restrictions in north Phoenix as part of the Interstate 17 pavement project between State Route 74 and Anthem Way:

I-17

Northbound I-17 will continue to be narrowed to one lane in areas between SR 74/Carefree Highway and Anthem Way nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Wednesday morning, Nov. 26.
Southbound I-17 will continue to be narrowed to one lane in areas between Anthem Way and SR 74/Carefree Highway nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Wednesday morning, Nov. 26.

SR 74

The southbound I-17 off-ramp at SR 74/Carefree Highway will be closed nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Monday, Nov. 24, and ending Wednesday, Nov. 26.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Pioneer Road to southbound North Valley Parkway/Gavilan Peak Parkway to access SR 74.
The northbound I-17 on-ramp at SR 74/Carefree Highway will be closed from 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using northbound North Valley Parkway/Gavilan Peak Parkway to westbound Pioneer Road to access I-17.

DAISY MOUNTAIN DRIVE

NEW DATES: The southbound I-17 off-ramp at Daisy Mountain Drive will be closed nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Friday, Nov. 21 (tonight), and ending Sunday morning, Nov. 23.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using the southbound I-17 off-ramp at Anthem Way to southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Daisy Mountain Drive.
POSTPONED: The northbound I-17 off-ramp closure at Daisy Mountain Drive originally scheduled for Nov. 20-23 has been postponed. ADOT will send an alert once a new date has been identified.

PIONEER ROAD

NEW DATES: The southbound I-17 off-ramp at Pioneer Road will be closed nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Saturday, Nov. 22, and ending Tuesday morning, Nov. 25.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using the southbound I-17 off-ramp at Daisy Mountain Drive to southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Pioneer Road.
The northbound I-17 off-ramp at Pioneer Road will continue to be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Wednesday morning, Nov. 26.
- Detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Carefree Highway/SR 74 to northbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Pioneer Road.
Pioneer Road at I-17 will continue to be narrowed to one lane nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Wednesday morning, Nov. 26.
- NOTE: Flaggers will assist drivers through the work zone.

ANTHEM WAY

POSTPONED: The northbound I-17 off-ramp closure at Anthem Way originally scheduled for Nov. 22-23 has been postponed. ADOT will send an alert once a new date has been identified.

NOTE: Consecutive I-17 on- and off-ramps will not be closed simultaneously. Crews will be moving around the area each night based on progress.

No closures or lane restrictions scheduled over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation has started a project to improve the pavement on Interstate 17 from State Route 74/Carefree Highway to Anthem Way. The purpose of the project is to replace the pavement and to improve safety and the driving experience on the roadway.

Project Area

Project Elements

Removing and replacing the existing asphalt pavement on I-17 and the interchange ramps between SR 74 and Anthem Way
Repairing and sealing bridge decks
Upgrading guardrails
Replacing pavement markings
Modifying existing sidewalk curb ramps and pedestrian push buttons, as needed, at the Daisy Mountain Drive and Anthem Way interchanges, to comply with federal Americans with Disability Act standards

What to Expect

Overnight weeknight/weekend lane restrictions and ramp closures will be required.

ADOT will provide information about restrictions and closures in advance so drivers can plan to use alternate routes and allow extra time.

Project Schedule

Construction began in June 2025 and will take approximately eight months to complete.

Schedule subject to change based on weather or other unforeseen factors.
