UPDATE: Interstate 17 lane restrictions, ramp closures at Anthem Way, Daisy Mountain Drive and Pioneer Road scheduled Jan. 25-Feb. 1

This alert adds daytime cross street restrictions Jan. 29 and 30; expect delays and allow extra travel time

NEW: CROSS STREET RESTRICTIONS

  • East- and westbound traffic on Anthem Way and Daisy Mountain Drive at their I-17 interchanges will be temporarily stopped at times daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning Thursday, Jan. 29, and ending Friday afternoon, Jan. 30, for crosswalk striping. 
  • East- and westbound traffic on Pioneer Road and SR 74/Carefree Highway at their I-17 interchanges will be temporarily stopped at times from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, for crosswalk striping. 

   NOTE: Law enforcement officers will be directing traffic through the intersections.

I-17 ROLLING LANE RESTRICTIONS 

Crews will continue lane striping work that requires rolling single lane restrictions during the following times: 

  • Southbound I-17 between Anthem Way and SR 74 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Sunday evening, Feb. 1.
  • Northbound I-17 between SR 74 and Anthem Way from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Sunday afternoon, Feb. 1.

I-17 NIGHTLY LANE RESTRICTIONS

  • Southbound I-17 between Anthem Way and SR 74 will continue to be narrowed to one lane nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Sunday morning, Feb. 1.
  • Northbound I-17 between SR 74 and Anthem Way will continue to be narrowed to one lane nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Sunday morning, Feb. 1.

ANTHEM WAY 

  • The northbound I-17 on- and off-ramps at Anthem Way will continue to be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Thursday morning, Jan. 29.
    • On-ramp detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Anthem Way to southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to westbound Daisy Mountain Drive to access I-17. 
    • Off-ramp detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Daisy Mountain Drive to northbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Anthem Way.
  • The southbound I-17 on- and off-ramps at Anthem Way will continue to be closed nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Thursday morning, Jan. 29.
    • On-ramp detour: Drivers can use eastbound Anthem Way to southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to westbound Daisy Mountain Drive to access I-17.
    • Off-ramp detour: Drivers may consider using westbound Daisy Mountain Drive to northbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Anthem Way.

DAISY MOUNTAIN DRIVE 

  • The northbound I-17 on- and off-ramps at Daisy Mountain Drive will continue to be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Thursday morning, Jan. 29.
    • On-ramp detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Daisy Mountain Drive to northbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to westbound Anthem Way to access I-17.
    • Off-ramp detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Pioneer Road to northbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Daisy Mountain Drive.
  • The southbound I-17 on- and off-ramps at Daisy Mountain Drive will continue to be closed nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Thursday morning, Jan. 29.
    • On-ramp detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Daisy Mountain Drive to southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to westbound Pioneer Road to access I-17.
    • Off-ramp detour: Drivers may consider using the southbound I-17 off-ramp at Anthem Way to southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Daisy Mountain Drive.

PIONEER ROAD 

  • The northbound I-17 on- and off-ramps at Pioneer Road will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Wednesday, Jan. 28, and ending Sunday morning, Feb. 1.
    • On-ramp detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Pioneer Road to northbound North Valley Parkway/Gavilan Peak Parkway to westbound Daisy Mountain Drive to access I-17.
    • Off-ramp detour: Drivers may consider exiting at SR 74/Carefree Highway and taking northbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Pioneer Road.
  • The southbound I-17 on- and off-ramps at Pioneer Road will be closed nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Wednesday, Jan. 28, and ending Sunday morning, Feb. 1.
    • On-ramp detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Pioneer Road to southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to westbound SR 74/Carefree Highway to access I-17.
    • Off-ramp detour: Drivers may consider exiting at Daisy Mountain Drive and taking southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access Pioneer Road.

SR 74 

  • The northbound I-17 on-ramp at SR 74 will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Wednesday, Jan. 28, and ending Sunday morning, Feb. 1.
    • On-ramp detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Carefree Highway to northbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to westbound Pioneer Road to access I-17.
  • The southbound I-17 off-ramp at SR 74 will be closed nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Wednesday, Jan. 28, and ending Sunday morning, Feb. 1.
    • Off-ramp detour: Drivers may consider using eastbound Pioneer Road to southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway/North Valley Parkway to access SR 74/Carefree Highway.

Note: North- and southbound on- and off-ramps will not be closed simultaneously. Crews will be moving around the area each night based on progress.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation has started a project to improve the pavement on Interstate 17 from State Route 74/Carefree Highway to Anthem Way. The purpose of the project is to replace the pavement and to improve safety and the driving experience on the roadway.

Project Elements

  • Removing and replacing the existing asphalt pavement on I-17 and the interchange ramps between SR 74 and Anthem Way
  • Repairing and sealing bridge decks
  • Upgrading guardrails
  • Replacing pavement markings
  • Modifying existing sidewalk curb ramps and pedestrian push buttons, as needed, at the Daisy Mountain Drive and Anthem Way interchanges, to comply with federal Americans with Disability Act standards

What to Expect

Overnight weeknight/weekend lane restrictions and ramp closures will be required.

ADOT will provide information about restrictions and closures in advance so drivers can plan to use alternate routes and allow extra time.

Project Schedule

Construction began in June 2025 and will take approximately eight months to complete. 

Schedule subject to change based on weather or other unforeseen factors.
