Interstate 17 lane restrictions, cross street restrictions at Anthem Way, Daisy Mountain Drive, Pioneer Road and State Route 74/Carefree Highway scheduled Feb. 1-8

Expect delays and allow extra travel time

I-17 NIGHTLY LANE RESTRICTIONS

  • North- and southbound I-17 between Anthem Way and SR 74 will be narrowed to one lane nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Sunday, Feb. 1, and ending Sunday morning, Feb. 8, for lane striping.
    • Note: Northbound lane restrictions will begin at 9 p.m.

I-17 ROLLING LANE RESTRICTIONS 

Crews are performing lane striping work that requires rolling single lane restrictions during the following times: 

  • Southbound I-17 between Anthem Way and SR 74 daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. beginning Monday, Feb. 2, and ending Thursday evening, Feb. 5.
  • Northbound I-17 between SR 74 and Anthem Way daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning Monday Feb. 2, and ending Thursday afternoon, Feb. 5.

CROSS STREET RESTRICTIONS

  • East- and westbound traffic on Anthem Way, Daisy Mountain Drive, Pioneer Road and SR 74/Carefree Highway at their I-17 interchanges will be temporarily stopped at times daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning Monday, Feb. 2, and ending Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 4, for crosswalk striping. 
    • Law enforcement officers will be directing traffic through the intersections.
    • The right lane on eastbound Daisy Mountain Drive also will be closed Feb. 4. 

Note: Crews will be moving around the area each day and night based on progress.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation has started a project to improve the pavement on Interstate 17 from State Route 74/Carefree Highway to Anthem Way. The purpose of the project is to replace the pavement and to improve safety and the driving experience on the roadway.

Project Elements

  • Removing and replacing the existing asphalt pavement on I-17 and the interchange ramps between SR 74 and Anthem Way
  • Repairing and sealing bridge decks
  • Upgrading guardrails
  • Replacing pavement markings
  • Modifying existing sidewalk curb ramps and pedestrian push buttons, as needed, at the Daisy Mountain Drive and Anthem Way interchanges, to comply with federal Americans with Disability Act standards

What to Expect

Overnight weeknight/weekend lane restrictions and ramp closures will be required.

ADOT will provide information about restrictions and closures in advance so drivers can plan to use alternate routes and allow extra time.

Project Schedule

Construction began in June 2025 and will take approximately eight months to complete. 

Schedule subject to change based on weather or other unforeseen factors.
