Reminder: Overnight closures of Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard in north Scottsdale scheduled July 18-28

Long-term closure of northbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Raintree Drive begins July 20; additional closures and restrictions scheduled through July

The Arizona Department of Transportation reminds drivers to plan for the following closures and restrictions as part of the Loop 101 widening project in north Scottsdale:

FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT BOULEVARD (JULY 18-28)

  • Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard will be closed in both directions at Loop 101 during the following times for bridge work:
    • Nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, and Thursday, July 24 
    • 9 p.m. Friday July, 25, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 28

Eastbound Detour: Drivers may use the southbound Loop 101 frontage road to eastbound Raintree Drive to the northbound Loop 101 frontage road to access Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard east of the closure. 

Westbound Detour: Drivers may use the northbound Loop 101 frontage road to westbound Bell Road to the southbound Loop 101 frontage road to access Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard west of the closure.

NORTHBOUND RAINTREE DRIVE LONG-TERM ON-RAMP CLOSURE

  • The northbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Raintree Drive will be closed beginning at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, July 20, for approximately 60 days, for reconstruction.
    • Detour: Drivers may consider using the northbound Loop 101 frontage road to the northbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard.

WESTBOUND RAINTREE DRIVE (JULY 28-29)

  • Westbound Raintree Drive will be closed at Loop 101 from 9 p.m. Monday, July 28, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, for sign work.
    • Detour: Drivers can use northbound 90th Street to westbound Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard to southbound Hayden Road to Raintree Drive or southbound 90th Street to southbound 92nd Street to westbound Thunderbird Road to northbound Northsight Boulevard to Raintree Drive.

SOUTHBOUND LOOP 101 FULL CLOSURE (AUG. 1-4)

  • Southbound Loop 101 will be closed between Princess Drive/Pima Road and Shea Boulevard and from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, until 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4. The southbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Scottsdale and Hayden roads also will be closed. 
    • Detour: Drivers may consider using southbound Scottsdale Road to eastbound Shea Boulevard to access Loop 101 beyond the closure.

Northbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Raintree Drive closing for approximately 60 days beginning July 20

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following long-term (approximately 60-day) ramp closure for reconstruction as part of the current Loop 101 widening project:

  • The northbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Raintree Drive will be closed beginning at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, July 20, for approximately 60 days, for ramp reconstruction.

DETOUR: Drivers may consider using the northbound Loop 101 frontage road to the northbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation, in partnership with the city of Scottsdale, is widening Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) between Princess Dr/Pima Rd and Shea Blvd by one general-purpose lane in each direction and modifying existing interchanges to improve traffic flow on Loop 101 and the cross streets.

Project Elements

  • Widen Loop 101 between Princess Dr/Pima Rd and Shea Blvd by one general-purpose lane in each direction
  • Add a third southbound left turn lane at Princess Dr/Pima Rd interchange
  • Convert Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd interchange to a diamond configuration
  • Add right turn lanes at Raintree Dr and Shea Blvd
  • Update sidewalks to make them ADA compliant
  • Upgrade freeway and ramp lighting

What to Expect

  • Construction began in January 2024 and will take approximately two years to complete.

  • Work will require lane restrictions and full closures on Loop 101, the interchange ramps and cross streets, and will occur primarily during overnight hours and weekends to minimize traffic impacts. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained.

  • Long-term on- and off-ramp closures will be required (up to 60 days).

  • ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers and on the project web page.
