Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will be conducting a pavement improvement project on northbound State Route 51 at Camelback Road.

The approximately $1.5 million project will improve the ride quality of the freeway beneath the Camelback Road bridge by replacing a 400-foot section of the northbound SR 51 pavement.

Project Elements

  • Removing and replacing the existing top layer of asphalt pavement.
  • Removing and replacing the existing concrete pavement.
  • Installing new lane striping and other pavement markings.
  • Repairing a catch basin and manhole.

What to Expect

  • The project will require weekend closures Friday night through Monday morning on northbound SR 51 from I-10 to Colter Street, as well as intermittent weekday overnight lane restrictions from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. along northbound SR 51.
  • Lanes will be temporarily striped during construction and permanently striped once the final top layer of asphalt is completed.
  • The pavement removal will generate some noise and dust; the contractor will be required to follow Maricopa County dust control requirements.

ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures. Subscribe to receive traffic alerts by email here.
