Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation, in cooperation with Yavapai County, has initiated a project to install a roundabout at the intersection of Cornville Road and Tissaw Road in the community of Cornville.

Project Elements

  • Reconstruct the Cornville Road and Tissaw Road approaches and develop a fourth approach.
  • Remove and replace the top layer of pavement. Install median islands on all approaches with pedestrian refuge areas at crosswalks.
  • Remove and install signing.
  • Install street lighting, foundation, mast arms, electrical conduits, pull box and meter.
  • Install concrete curb, gutter and scuppers for drainage to modify existing side channels.
  • Install new pavement markings.
  • Remove and install guardrail, barbed wire fence, and fence gate on the north side of Cornville Road.
  • Extend pipe culvert with new headwall.
  • Install erosion control measures.
  • Install sidewalks and ramps.
  • Clearing vegetation.

Project Schedule

The work is scheduled to begin January 2026 with final completion anticipated for fall 2026.

What to expect:

There will be continuous restrictions throughout duration of the project. All traffic control will remain in place 24/7, including weekends.

  • Work will take place 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 7 a.m. to noon Fridays, as needed.
  • Cornville Road will remain open during construction.
  • Phase 1:
    • January through early summer.
    • A temporary signal will be installed at the intersection of Cornville Road/Verde Sante Fe Parkway and remain in operation for the entirety of the project.
    • Tissaw Road restriction (right-in/right-out only)
      • Residents will use Verde Sante Fe Parkway to travel westbound on Cornville Road.
  • Phase 2:
    • Early summer through fall.
    • Tissaw Road closed.
      • Residents will use Verde Sante Fe Parkway to access Cornville Road.
  • Flaggers and a pilot car may be used at certain times when Cornville Road is narrowed to one alternating lane of travel near the roundabout location.
  • No work is anticipated to take place on weekends or holidays.
