Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation has initiated a new project to increase truck parking in rest areas along Interstate 40 and Interstate 17 in Arizona. The rest areas and approximate dates of construction include: 

  • I-40: Parks Rest Area - 12 miles west of Flagstaff (MP 182): summer 2024 through summer 2025
  • I-17: Christensen Rest Area - 15 miles south of Flagstaff (MP 324): summer 2024 through summer 2025
  • I-17: Sunset Point Rest Area - 40 miles north of Phoenix (MP 252): fall 2024 through fall 2025
  • I-40: Haviland - 23 miles south of Kingman (MP 23): fall 2024 through fall 2025

Project Elements

  • Construct additional truck parking.
  • Re-pave new and existing truck parking spaces.
  • Demolition of old, unused structures. 
  • New Structure Installations
  • Vegetation cleanup and removal.

What to Expect

The rest areas and existing truck spaces are scheduled to remain open during construction. No traffic impacts are expected. Construction at the rest areas will take place over the next 450 days.
