Shelby Drive Business Development Phase 2

Shelby Drive Business Development Phase 2

Contents

Project Cost: $2.5 Million

Overview

The City of Sedona has initiated a shared-use path project along Shelby Drive between Sedona Recycles and Pyle Street. The purpose of this project is to widen the existing sidewalk on Shelby Drive from the current four-to-six-foot path to an eight-to-10-foot-wide, shared-use path.

The project will continue the shared-use path that was completed as part of Phase 1, which currently terminates in front of Sedona Recycles. This widened pathway will continue north on the east side of the roadway to the speed table south of Whippet Way and then cross to the west side of Shelby Drive. The pathway will continue north along the Wyndham property until the project terminates at the culvert crossing near Pyle Street.

The project involves removal of existing sidewalks, asphalt and vegetation to accommodate the new shared-use path, as well as narrowing Shelby Drive in some places to install traffic calming devices to the roadway.

Sedona sought a $500,000 grant through the Arizona Senate’s Office Congressional Directed Spending (CDS) funds to redevelop the Shelby Drive Corridor starting in 2022.

The project is scheduled to start fall 2025 and be completed in late spring/early summer 2026.

Watch for construction crews 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Residential and commercial driveways will remain open and accessible except for a brief time during paving operations.

Daytime lane restrictions will be in place on portions of Shelby Drive. One lane will be closed for construction and flaggers will allow alternating traffic. The city of Sedona advises drivers to expect short delays and to consider alternate routes.
