Overview

Project Cost: $4,201,000

The Arizona Department of Transportation is improving the roadway along a 3-mile stretch of State Route 89A in Cottonwood, roughly between Cottonwood Street and River Road (mileposts 353 – 356). 

The purpose of the project is to improve safety and driving conditions on the roadway, extend the life of the pavement, improve drainage and enhance accessibility for people with disabilities.

Project Elements

  • Remove the existing top layer of asphalt and replacing it with new pavement.
  • Install new sidewalks, driveways, sidewalk ramps and handrail that are in compliance with current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
  • Install new concrete curb and gutter.
  • Remove and install new pedestrian push buttons that are in compliance with current ADA standards.

Project Schedule

Construction began in the summer of 2023 with final completion anticipated for early 2024. Schedules are subject to change because of weather and other unforeseen situations.

What to expect

While the project is underway, motorists will encounter daytime lane restrictions and should plan for possible delays. 

  • Work will occur from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. (hours subject to change as daylight hours change)
  • A minimum of one lane in each direction will remain open on SR 89A during construction.

No work is anticipated to occur on weekends or holidays.
