This alert updates the restrictions start date to Feb. 18

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists traveling on Battaglia Drive in Arizona City to expect overnight lane restrictions beginning Wednesday, Feb. 18, as a shoulder widening project gets underway.

The following restrictions will be in place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday through spring:

  • Battaglia Drive will be narrowed to one lane only with alternating east- and westbound travel 
  • Flaggers will move traffic through the work zone.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph in the work zone. 
  • A 10-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.

ADOT reminds drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, be prepared to make frequent stops and watch for construction personnel and equipment.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation in partnership with Pinal County has tentatively scheduled work on the Battaglia Drive shoulder widening project between Henness and Overfield roads to begin early 2026. The purpose of the project is to construct wider shoulders to help improve mobility along the corridor.

Project Elements

  • Install a 2-ft shoulder on eastbound Battaglia Drive and 5-ft shoulder on westbound Battaglia Drive.

What to Expect

  • Traffic control devices will guide motorists through the construction area.
  • Construction work is tentatively scheduled overnight from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Expect temporary delays as traffic is redirected through a single travel lane.
  • ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers.

Schedule

Construction on this project is anticipated to begin early 2026 and is projected to be completed in the summer of 2026. Schedules are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
