The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists to plan ahead for overnight lane restrictions on the Interstate 10 frontage road between 29th Street/Silverlake and Ruthrauff roads in Tucson between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. from Tuesday, Jan. 21, through Saturday, Jan. 25, as crews continue to work on the I-10 at Ruthrauff Road to I-19 at Valencia Road LED project.

Motorists should plan ahead for the following restrictions:

  • East- and westbound I-10 frontage road to be reduced to one lane between 29 street/Silverlake Road (milepost 252) and Ruthrauff Road (milepost 259).
  • Law enforcement to be on site to direct traffic in the project area.

Drivers should expect delays, obey posted speed limits and traffic control devices and use caution around construction personnel.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation has initiated a project to replace existing light fixtures with new light fixtures on east- and westbound I-10 from Ruthrauff Road to north- and southbound I-19 at Valencia Road in Tucson to improve visibility and roadway safety.

Project Schedule

The project is anticipated to begin construction in January 2025 and is expected to be completed in Summer 2025. Schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • No mainline closures are expected on I-10 and I-19.
  • Expect possible lane closures on the I-10 frontage roads while fixtures are being replaced. One lane of travel on the frontage roads will be maintained during construction.
  • Construction is tentatively scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
  • ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers.
