Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation began the Interstate 19: Western Avenue/Target Range Road Bridges rehabilitation project in February 2026. The purpose of the project is to maintain the structural integrity of the two existing bridges.

Project Elements

  • Rehabilitate the deck of the existing two bridges
  • Rehabilitate the roadway north and south of the bridges
  • Rehabilitate slope paving under the bridges
  • Remove and replace the guardrails
  • Install new pavement markers on I-19

What to Expect

  • Traffic control devices will guide motorists through the construction area
  • Motorists should expect 24/7 lane restrictions and temporary delays as traffic is redirected through a single travel lane. One lane in each direction will be kept open at all times on I-19 and Western Avenue/Target Range Road.
  • No detours or full closures of I-19 or Western Avenue/Target Range Road are anticipated
  • ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers

Schedule

Construction began on Feb. 8 and is expected to be completed by summer 2026. Schedules are subject to change because of weather and other unforeseen situations.
