SR 386: Kitt Peak Observatory Guardrail Reconstruction Project
Overview
The Arizona Department of Transportation has initiated a project to repair guardrail and make other improvements on State Route 386 at the Kitt Peak Observatory on the Tohono O’odham Nation to improve roadway safety.
Project Elements
- Replacing guardrail and guardrail end terminals
- Constructing drainage improvement
- Performing rock fall mitigation
- Other miscellaneous improvements
Project Area
The project limits extend from the SR 386/SR 86 intersection from milepost 0 to milepost 12.
What to Expect
- Traffic control devices will be in place to move motorists through the construction area. During non-working hours, both lanes of traffic will be open.
- Construction is tentatively scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers.
Project Schedule
Construction is scheduled to begin September 2024 with an anticipated completion date in spring 2025.
