Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation has initiated a project to repair guardrail and make other improvements on State Route 386 at the Kitt Peak Observatory on the Tohono O’odham Nation to improve roadway safety.

Project Elements

  • Replacing guardrail and guardrail end terminals
  • Constructing drainage improvement
  • Performing rock fall mitigation
  • Other miscellaneous improvements

The project limits extend from the SR 386/SR 86 intersection from milepost 0 to milepost 12.

What to Expect

  • Traffic control devices will be in place to move motorists through the construction area. During non-working hours, both lanes of traffic will be open.
  • Construction is tentatively scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
  • ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers. 

Project Schedule

Construction is scheduled to begin September 2024 with an anticipated completion date in spring 2025.
