Plan for restrictions and delays on SR 79 in Florence beginning July 21

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to prepare for restrictions and delays on State Route 79 from the Fannin-McFarland Aqueduct at milepost 132 (north of Salazar Street) to Jason Lopez Circle at milepost 135 in Florence while crews perform a pavement improvement project. Crews will perform nightwork from 8 p.m. to  8 a.m. Sunday, July, 21 through Friday, July 26. The remainder of the work will be completed from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through Aug 25. The heaviest delays are expected July 22 through July 27 while crews perform the milling and paving portion of the project. 

Drivers should prepare for:

  • A reduced speed limit of 25 mph
  • 12-ft width restriction
  • Flagging operation to help drivers navigate the area

Schedule is subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances. Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation initiated in July 2024 a pavement rehabilitation project on State Route 79 from the Fannin-McFarland Aqueduct at milepost 132 (north of Salazar Street) and Jason Lopez Circle  at milepost 135 in the town of Florence. This project seeks to maintain the structural integrity and extend the life of the pavement.

Project Elements

  • Adding raised pavement markings, and rumble strips. 
  • Removing and replacing the old friction course. 
  • Implementing pavement spot repairs.

Project Schedule

  • Construction is expected to take three months to complete.
  • Work will be completed overnight beginning 8 p.m. Sunday, July 21, to 8 a.m. Friday, July 26, after that work is scheduled from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

What to Expect

  • A flagging operation will be used to help drivers navigate the area. 
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph. 
  • A 12-ft width restriction will be in place.
