Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation is performing a bridge repair project on State Route 80 in St David, AZ, spanning over the San Pedro River. The work will consist of removing the existing San Pedro River Bridge and replacing it with a continuous three span welded steel plate girder bridge. Additional work includes replacing guardrail and placing pavement markings.

What to expect during construction

  • Motorists should prepare for delays during peak traffic.
  • One travel lane will remain open at all times.
  • Traffic will be shifted during construction to allow crews to work on one side of the bridge at a time. Alternating lane restrictions will begin Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022.
  • Temporary traffic signals at bridge access points will be used to regulate traffic in each direction.
  • A 10-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.

Project Timeline

Work on this project is expected to be completed by Summer 2024.

Plan for lane restrictions on SR 80 San Pedro River bridge beginning Dec. 14

Drivers should expect delays and allow extra travel time

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for lane restrictions and delays along State Route 80 in St. David beginning Wednesday, Dec. 14, for the San Pedro River bridge replacement project. Traffic will be shifted during construction to allow crews to work on one side of the bridge at a time. 

Work is scheduled to occur from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays until Spring 2024. 

Drivers should plan for delays, be prepared to stop and proceed through the work zone with caution, watching for construction personnel and equipment.

The following restrictions will be in place while work is underway: 

  • SR 80 will be narrowed to one lane only with alternating east- and westbound travel between Flynn Road and Chihaverty Trail (near milepost 299).  
  • Temporary traffic signals at bridge access points will be used to regulate traffic in each direction.
  • A 10-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.
