Plan for 24 hour lane restrictions on SR 82 (Patagonia Highway) in Nogales through Jan. 20.

No scheduled lane restrictions or closures during the holidays

The Arizona Department of Transportation and the city of Nogales advise drivers to plan ahead for  24 hour lane closure on westbound State Route 82 from Morley Avenue to Royal Road (milepost 1 to milepost 3) in Nogales for sidewalk reconstruction.

The following restrictions will occur 24 hours a day on weekdays through Monday, Jan. 20: 

  • Westbound SR 82 will be restricted to one lane between Morley Avenue and Royal Road (mileposts 1 and 3).
  • A 12-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place. 
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph. 
  • The sidewalk will be closed and pedestrians will use a temporary  detour path. 

Drivers should plan for delays, obey posted speed limits and traffic control devices and use caution around pedestrians and construction personnel. No work is anticipated during the Veterans, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year or Martin Luther King holidays.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation in conjunction with the city of Nogales has initiated construction of a sidewalk improvements project on State Route 82 (Patagonia Highway) from east of Morley Avenue to Royal Road in Nogales. The project will improve pedestrian and cyclist safety.

Project Elements

  • Reconstructing the sidewalk
  • Constructing a new asphalt concrete multi-use pathway along the north side of SR 82 for pedestrians and bicyclists
  • Building retaining walls and other related work

The project limits extend from east of Morley Avenue to Royal Road.

Project Schedule

Construction started September 2024 and is anticipated to be completed February 2025. Crews will work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers. Schedules are subject to change because of weather and other unforeseen circumstances. 

What to Expect

Expect temporary lane closures and other traffic restrictions.There are no expected traffic restrictions during the weekends or holidays.
