The Arizona Department of Transportation advises Payson and Star Valley area drivers to plan for intermittent lane restrictions on State Route 260 as work begins on the widening project in the town of Star Valley between Mayfield Canyon Road and Forest Road.

The following traffic restrictions will be in effect when construction starts on Monday, June 8:

  • Intermittent daytime lane restrictions along SR 260 will be in place from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Mondays through Thursdays and 5 a.m. to noon on Fridays, as needed.
  • One travel lane in each direction will be maintained on SR 260 during construction
  • When needed, flaggers and a pilot car will move drivers through the work zone

ADOT advises drivers to plan for delays while the work is underway. Drivers and nearby residents may see preliminary work starting the week of June 1, such as surveying and mobilizing the construction area.

Major elements of the $76.2 million project include:

  • One additional travel lane in each direction between mileposts (MP) 256 to 260
  • A center-turn lane between MP 256-257 and center median between MP 257-260
  • A new frontage road for the Diamond Point subdivision
  • Three wildlife crossings
  • A dedicated right-turn lane for eastbound SR 260 at Lion Springs Road and westbound
  • SR 260 at Dealers Choice Road

Other project elements include improving and/or installing drainage and sediment-control facilities, including box culverts, pipes and ditches; removing, replacing and extending guardrail, as needed; and other related work.

The anticipated construction duration of the project will be about 2.5 years, when factoring in anticipated annual winter shutdown periods.
