In-person meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 27

DOUGLAS  – The Arizona Department of Transportation is holding an in-person open house Thursday, April 27, to share information on a study evaluating alternatives for a connector road from the new Douglas International Port of Entry to State Route 80.

ADOT is conducting the study to recommend a preferred future roadway location and design that can safely accommodate commercial traffic, as there is no current paved roadway in place.

Lane restrictions needed as work resumes following winter shutdown

FLAGSTAFF – After a break due to the winter weather season, a project to repave and make other improvements along southbound Interstate 17 south of Flagstaff has resumed with lane restrictions starting today (Monday, April 24).

Drivers should expect lane restrictions in several areas while the pavement improvement work is underway over the next several months, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

More lasting repairs underway, funds reallocated for paving projects

As warming weather allows the Arizona Department of Transportation to begin more permanent repairs to highways after a rough winter, the agency is reallocating $50.5 million to replace deteriorating pavement surfaces within 23 locations, most of them in northern Arizona. Funding for the pavement repair work comes from savings on other projects.

Drivers should plan for extra travel time

HOLBROOK – The Arizona Department of Transportation will continue two improvement projects on Interstate 40 from Joseph City through Holbrook (mileposts 278-290) starting Monday, April 24.

Crews will be working on the bridge decks at the Tanner Wash Bridge and the Geronimo Road overpass, as part of a pavement improvement project along I-40 from Joseph City to Perkins Valley Road.

SR 273 and SR 261 lead to Sunrise Park, Big Lake

PHOENIX – With springtime and warmer weather here, two White Mountains-area state highways reopened Thursday, April 20, after being closed for the winter, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

State Route 261 runs from State Route 260 near Eagar to Big Lake, while State Route 273 goes from SR 260 to Sunrise Park and Big Lake.

State Route 473, running south from SR 260 on the White Mountain Apache Reservation, is scheduled to reopen on Friday, April 21.

Expect lane restrictions on SR 169 through this fall

CAMP VERDE  – The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin a project this spring in Yavapai County to replace the bridge deck on State Route 169 over Interstate 17.

The $6.2 million project is scheduled to start Monday, April 24, and extend through fall 2023. The work includes replacing the SR 169 bridge deck, which is the top surface of the structure motorists drive on. As part of the project, crews will also build a new concrete bridge deck, repair erosion at the bridge abutments and replace some sections of guardrail.

PHOENIX-The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists to allow extra travel time, plan to use detours and expect delays if their plans include travel on Interstate 10 in the area of SR 51 and US 60. Crews with the Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project are removing the old 48th Street and Broadway Road bridges over I-10.

Improvements will take place between Truwood, Stonebridge drives

PRESCOTT VALLEY  – The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin a project this spring to replace three miles of pavement on State Route 69 in Prescott Valley.

The $4 million project will involve replacing the top layer of pavement between Truwood and Stoneridge drives, from mileposts 287-290. The work will include updating sidewalk ramps and replacing damaged sidewalk segments.

Work is scheduled to begin Wednesday, April 19, and continue through fall 2023.

Drainage system improvement project will require detours

PHOENIX – The intersection of State Route 88 (Apache Trail) and Tomahawk Road in Apache Junction will close for approximately seven weeks starting Monday, April 17, for a drainage improvement project.

Drivers who normally use that intersection should allow extra travel time and plan on using available detour routes, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

PHOENIX – More than 3.5 million Arizonans have discovered the safest, fastest and most convenient way to complete services with the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division.

Since launching in April 2020, 3,563,000 Arizonans have activated free AZMVDNow.gov accounts, giving them access to the primary online portal for MVD customers.

Closure signals start of major work to widen I-10 from Ruthrauff to Ina

TUCSON  – The Orange Grove Road interchange will close at Interstate 10 Wednesday as major work begins on a project to rebuild and widen I-10 from Ruthrauff to Ina roads in the Tucson area.

The closure, set to begin at 5 a.m. Wednesday, will include all exit and entrance ramps except for the I-10 westbound off-ramp. The closure is anticipated to remain in place until late 2024.

Miles and hours logged by drivers roughly double those of 2021-22

PHOENIX – Arizona Department of Transportation snowplow drivers have logged well over a million miles to clear state highways amid this winter season’s record-setting storms. 

The 1.2 million miles covered by ADOT’s fleet of some 200 snowplows is nearly twice as many as they drove during the 2021-22 winter season. ADOT’s trained snowplow operators have logged more than 66,000 hours – more than double the previous season’s total – working through the challenge of removing snow and ice as safely and as quickly as possible from highways impacted by winter storms.

Five-mile segment to become four-lane divided highway

The Arizona Department of Transportation has begun a project near Wickenburg to transform another 5 miles of US 93 from two lanes to four-lane divided highway.

The work is part of ADOT’s long-term vision to transform the entire 200-mile section of US 93 from Wickenburg to the Hoover Dam bypass into a modern four-lane divided highway. In the past several years, ADOT has invested nearly $500 million in projects that have widened and improved US 93.
