The Arizona Department of Transportation submitted a competitive grant bid that, if awarded, would allocate approximately $65 million to speed up already-planned improvement projects on US 93 between Wickenburg and Interstate 40.
If the grant application is approved, these competitive funds would be added to state match funding and additional federal dollars, for a potential total of more than $200 million for the improvements on US 93, in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration.
HEBER-OVERGAARD, AZ – Starting this week, the Arizona Department of Transportation will begin a project along a 22-mile stretch of State Route 260 west of Heber-Overgaard to improve roadway safety.
The improvement project includes increasing the shoulder-width on each side of the highway by 5 feet, making guardrail improvements, extending and improving drainage systems and making pavement repairs.
Work will begin near Heber-Overgaard at Shore Bridge Trail at milepost 305, and crews will move west toward Rim Road at milepost 282.

KINGMAN – The Arizona Department of Transportation will perform pavement repair along a six-mile stretch of Interstate 40 in Kingman beginning Sunday, May 15.
East- and westbound I-40 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly from Sunday, May 15, to Saturday, May 21. The work will take place from Andy Devine Avenue to west of the Kingman city limits (mileposts 46-52).
Crews will mill down worn asphalt in certain areas along I-40 and repave those areas with new pavement creating a smoother ride for drivers.
PHOENIX – The Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project is updating its detour route information for this weekend’s I-10 closure between the Loop 202 (Santan/South Mountain Freeway) and US 60 (Superstition Freeway).
UPDATED: US 60 is closed in both directions between Rural Road and Loop 101 (Price Freeway) due to water on the roadway.
WICKENBURG, AZ – The Arizona Department of Transportation will be performing pavement improvements along a 23-mile stretch of US 60 west of Wickenburg beginning Monday, May 9.
The work will take place between the communities of Wenden and Aguila (mileposts 63 to 86) and involve spot pavement repairs and chip sealing where needed. Crews will also perform a micro seal from mileposts 82 to 85.

Crews with the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project will remove the north face of the Guadalupe Road bridge in preparation for widening work, and Salt River Project crews will conduct utility relocation work during the closure.
FLAGSTAFF – The Arizona Department of Transportation will demolish and replace the A-1 Mountain Road overpass along I-40 in Flagstaff in 40 days thanks to an innovative bridge construction method.
Crews will use an accelerated bridge construction method known as a geosynthetic reinforced soil-integrated bridge system. That means crews will create bridge abutments by putting in alternating layers of granular fill reinforced with synthetic material.
In order to replace the bridge, A-1 Mountain Road will be closed to all traffic over I-40 starting Monday, May 2.
PHOENIX – During this upcoming weekend’s full closure of Interstate 10 between State Route 51 and SR 143, Salt River Project (SRP) crews will safely move a utility pole fondly referred to as the “North Pole.” The massive 75-foot-tall pole on the north side of I-10 near 46th Street needs to shift 102 feet further north to make way for improvements on I-10 as part of the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project.
