Register here to join ADOT’s 8th annual Adopt a Highway cleanup on National CleanUp Day, Saturday, Sept. 20.

Since 2018, more than 1,900 volunteers have demonstrated the power of coming together on National CleanUp Day by picking up 26,000 pounds of trash from along state highways across Arizona.

It’s the most wonderful day of the year for volunteer trash cleanups, and you are invited to help us keep the momentum going. We’ve got three options for you to get involved:

  • Volunteer groups organize a cleanup and register to clean adopted segments on National CleanUp Day or within the week. Group leaders report the number of volunteers and trash bags filled after the event.
  • One-day permits are granted on a first-come, first-served basis to individuals, businesses, clubs, community groups and faith-based organizations. We do our best to find an adoptable highway segment to tidy up near your desired location. Group leaders report the number of volunteers and trash bags filled after the event.
  • Participate in ADOT’s cleanup near Friendship Park in Avondale, from 6-10 a.m. We supply the safety vests and the trash bags.

Thank you for considering National CleanUp Day as a way to unite and reduce litter along Arizona’s highways. Please visit Adopt a Highway Events and Registration to register for more opportunities to get involved on Groundhog Day and Earth Day 2026.
