Adopt a Highway: Join the who’s who of volunteers

It’s time once again to roll out a virtual red carpet in celebration of ADOT’s latest A-list. 

Naturally, our image of a red carpet looks a lot like a highway, and our A-list influencers are amazing volunteers. But hey – that’s who we are!

Stepping forward to help reduce trash along state highways is a big win for Arizonans and the communities connected by them. ADOT welcomed these next five organizations to participate in one-day cleanups celebrating Earth Day 2025. Combined, they removed more than 100 bags of trash from landscape along state highways in their communities:

• Page Attacks Trash
• Freeport McMoran Copper & Gold Inc. - Morenci Operations
• Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
• Resolution Copper Mining, and 
• Petrified National Forest  

Measuring the pride of adoption in every volunteer group cleanup is a big part of what makes the Adopt a Highway Volunteer Program a success. We applaud these three groups for using ADOT’s online reporting tool that show us the number of volunteers, hours and number trash bags filled during each cleanup event:

• “Knights of Columbus of OLA” in Overgaard renewed their permit and reported three cleanups on State Route 277, mile marker 308. More than 600 pounds of trash filled 41 bags.  
• “Keep Wellton Beautiful Committee” reported clearing 12 bags worth of trash from Interstate 8 near mile marker 30.   
• “Make your dash count 1965-2018” picked up about 165 pounds or 12 bags from an adopted mile on the frontage road along Interstate 17 near mile marker 218.
