Adopt a Highway: The sounds of change

What’s your frequency for getting involved in the community?

Director Nancy Potenza for the Bisbee Radio Project Inc. answered that question as one of ADOT’s recent highway adopters and the designated group leader for Radio KBRP 96.1 FM in Bisbee.

“We’re 100% volunteer-run,” Nancy said. “It’s definitely a community radio station, so what better activity to do with and for our community than clean up a mile of State Route 92 that runs through our town?”

Shortly after KRBP Radio received their adopted mile in September 2025, the station called on the community in an on-air announcement to join the first event held Oct. 30. Ten individuals responded and all received safety training and vests before heading out to the designated area between mile markers 352–353.

The group’s first cleanup was a success, resulting in five stuffed ADOT bags weighing over 100 pounds.

Nancy said, “This highway cleanup is another activity that links us to our community and allows us to give back.”

We thank Nancy and KRBP Radio for sharing the photo included in this story, and for the results of their successful cleanup. Congratulations for literally going the extra mile to connect the community in a way that broadcasts the spirit of Bisbee!
