ADOT celebrates Phoenix-area volunteers

Adopt a Highway representatives invited Phoenix-area volunteers to stop by ADOT’s main office to replenish trash bag supplies for upcoming cleanups. Group leaders also left with certificates of appreciation and lime green backpacks to safely carry necessities during roadside cleanups.
Michelle Dean, Adopt a Highway Specialist for ADOT’s Central District, said, “We loved celebrating ADOT's first Central District Volunteer Appreciation Day to honor our amazing volunteers and equip them with litter bags for upcoming cleanups. Gathering in one central Phoenix location gave us the perfect chance to connect, share supplies and show our gratitude for the incredible work they do to keep Arizona's highways beautiful.”
Please join us in celebrating leaders who demonstrate, time and again, their ability to bring individuals together and carry out good deeds that benefit the Valley of the Sun and the state of Arizona:
- Cindy Casaus for the Edward Alvah Noble family
- Ed Maki for the Arizona Trail Riders
- Laura Occhiline for the Little Foundation
- Ernestine Pattea for the Dr. Pattea Foundation memorial adoption
- Dave Summers for the Shot Gun LEMC Phoenix Chapter
- Richard Sporski for the Arrowhead HOG memorial adoption in memory of Bob and Deb
Like so many volunteers, ours work along state roadways with friends and family to bag hundreds of pounds of trash. You may have spotted the blue volunteer bags dotting along a roadside, awaiting pickup by ADOT maintenance crews. For these adopters, volunteering is about sharing time with others, remembering loved ones and working quietly behind the scenes to help preserve the natural beauty of Arizona.
If you’d like to make a difference by reducing highway trash in your community, we can help. Please visit azdot.gov/adoptahighway to adopt your own two-mile stretch or join us for an ADOT hosted cleanup in the Phoenix area on National CleanUp Day, Groundhog Day and Earth Day.
