Earth Day is a perfect opportunity to smash the goodness of volunteer service and appreciation together into an entire week of thanks and positive energy.

And that is exactly what ADOT is gearing up for on April 22, with the third annual Earth Day cleanup happening during National Volunteer Week, April 19-25.

This year, we’ve invited groups to pledge Earth Day cleanups at adopted segments or pitch in for a few hours with us along a section of the Loop 202 in Tempe.

In 2025, volunteers bagged 650 pounds of trash and staged hundreds more pounds of construction debris within two hours at the same location. And all of this was done while having fun visiting with other volunteers on a stretch less than one mile in length.

We’re so grateful to all volunteers who registered for this event! We can’t wait to celebrate you and to see what we can accomplish this year for our lovely planet.

If you’d like to form your own volunteer group, please visit azdot.gov/adoptahighway. We’re here to help make it happen and cheer you on.
