Ten specialty license plates in front of a background filled with red and pink hearts

Some people wear their heart on their sleeves, but did you know you can also wear it on your license plate? This Valentine’s Day, give the gift of expression and charitable donation at the same time in the form of a specialty license plate.

Whether you are looking for that unique gift, or the gift of helping people, the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division has a great selection of specialty plates that is sure to please, and surprise, anyone that drives or rides around town.

With more than 100 specialty plates to choose from, there’s something to please every driver. Best of all, a portion of each specialty plate goes to charitable organizations in Arizona. Last year, Arizona’s specialty plates raised over $12 million for charitable causes. Here are just a few examples of plates to consider:

The Arizona Centennial plate is for those that love Arizona (don’t forget Valentine’s Day is also Arizona Statehood day). License plates of the local sports teams like the Cardinals, Diamondbacks, or Coyotes are a great choice for any passionate fan. The Congenital heart Defect Awareness plate shows your heart is in the right place. The Donate Life Arizona plate shows the importance of giving a heart by being an organ and tissue donor! And if the love of your life bleeds Arizona red and blue, ASU maroon and gold, GCU purple and black or NAU blue and gold, there are specialty plates to match that love and spirit.

All specialty plate options can be viewed and ordered online at azmvdnow.gov. As long as the vehicle is registered in Arizona and the eligibility requirements are met, you can give a specialty plate.

Most specialty plates cost $25 each year. Of that amount, $17 goes to a designated charity or nonprofit group. Specialty plates are authorized by the Arizona Legislature and have been offered since 1989. Personalization can be added for an additional $25 per year.

These gift ideas are way more unique than buying flowers or chocolate, and will express your love for the community as well
