It’s a super day (to designate a driver)

A digital message board on the highway encourages motorists to designate a driver.

No matter what team you’re rooting for in the Super Bowl (or maybe you’re just waiting for the halftime show), we want to remind drivers to have a plan to get home safely after the game is over.

If you’re out on Arizona highways on Sunday, you may notice a traffic safety message encouraging motorists to designate a driver on overhead message signs.

We hope these messages will help start important conversations about traffic safety and ultimately influence drivers to make better decisions behind the wheel. Nationally, about 90% of crashes are caused by driver behavior — people choosing to speed, drive impaired or distracted.

In 2024, there were 347 people killed in alcohol-related crashes, according to crash reports submitted by law enforcement agencies and compiled by ADOT. These deaths were preventable, and it’s on all of us to make better choices behind the wheel.
